I would like to note how difficult it is to find people that are reliable enough to use as characters in a project. Because of this it was often difficult to film and produce a project. I liked the structure of the Guerilla Film Project because it allowed the incorporation of creative elements while encouraging students to participate. I feel that if this format was used more frequently it would have promoted the video making environment. Overall, I feel that I learned many valuable skills this year that will help me outside of this class. By the end of the year, I had mastered many skills and only wish I had more time to utilize them. I really enjoy the potential for creativity incorporated with this class.

Well, I think I finished my short story, although I might be the only one. The only thing I am disappointed in is the audio, because everyone else seems to have these cool sound effects and I don't. I am unsure were to turn it in. I will put it in Mr. Haag's public folder.

I've been trying for two hours to capture the footage for our short story. I believe it is finally working, at least I hope it does this time. However, because I lost an entire class period I am going to be running short on time.  I feel bad because we have known about this project for weeks. However, there was nothing I could do to get my group to speed of the filming process. So I am here capturing the footage last minute. Maybe Haag will cut me some slack. I am still going to do whatever I can to finish on time, whatever that may be.

Our group filmed over break. However, there is still more we have to do. We are working on figuring out when we will finish filming.

I am beginning to work on some track footage. However, I would still like to do interviews. I would also like more footage. I think that even if I am pressured to work on the video for the film festival, I will add more to it afterwords for the video announcements.

I was planning to film the Boys Soccer match on April 8th. However, I did not realize it was over break. I realize this was poor planning on my part. However, I already filmed two things so I still reached my requirement.

4/2/09

Today I considered some more ideas for the sports piece on the video announcements. I looked at some times online to get a good idea of how long, on average, an event lasts. I think instead of dictating what else could be happening during the same amount of time, I will ask the athletes what they would do. I might mix in a few humorous concepts from my original idea. However, the interviews and highlights are the important part. Hannah and Kailyn also want to enter the piece in the film festival so this puts extra pressure on me to finish my parts quickly. However, at the current moment there is no footage of track or any other sports, so I cannot work on anything except for concepts.

I also spent some time discussing the short story with my group. We are filming over break.

Today we discussed video announcements. For my piece I am going to work on sports. This way I do not have to get actors, which was the main reason my last piece didn't turn out very good. Mainly, I would like to do track, but I can do something else as well. We have 6 minutes for the piece.

We also discussed our short stories. Our group is making good progress on our short story script. We are going to film over break on Wednesday and Thursday.

I will continue to work on my cow story next class. I will also help write the script for our groups short story, and perhaps a script for my own use. However, my priority is the group's short story and it is not likely that I will get to work on something else.

Today we worked in our groups. Our group decided to combine ideas, so now we are working on a process of writing a new script that incorporates elements from all of our scripts. Personally, I finally have an idea I would like to go forward with. It is about a blue cow. I would like to work on this next class.

Today we were going to begin group projects, but for some reason, we did not. Instead I worked on an anti smoking ad of some sort. It is likely that it will turn into something interesting, although it is kind of unplanned. Next class I we will work on group projects.

Today we had a shortened period. We spent all class discussing video announcements. Next is also a shortened period and we will probably do the same. However, I would like to work on my personal projects if there is time.

Today we determined which groups we would be in. In our groups we will produce a short story. Forming the groups took a decent amount of our class time.

For a little while, I helped Tyler on one of his personal projects.

I am also considering an idea for the next video announcements. I am straying from the idea of making an original short story again because finding actors is somewhat difficult. Instead I would like to help on with sports. The concept of the piece is to compare the time it takes to do certain events in track with other things you could be doing. I used the internet to help generate amusing ideas. I spent the majority of the rest of my class time working on this. Next class I would like to continue working on this concept.

Today we talked about the steady cam and dolly in class. I would like to work on some more short stories, and incorporate uses for the dolly and steady cam, as well as the crane. I already have a list of story ideas, so I can pick from those or think of something new.

The PSA got of control. I was glad Hannah pointed it out because I was able to fix it before it was due. The PSA is now, finally, done. I also was able to turn in my short story. I am not quite sure what I am going to work on next class. I suppose that I will work on some more scripts to use on personal projects. I would like to incorporate some of the motion elements that I did not get to use on the PSA.

Yes! On Tuesday (3/3/09) the PSA was finally filmed, and it only took one period of SSR! Now I have something to edit! I can scrap the short piece on DI because I no longer need it as a backup. I will make sure I come in everyday for the rest of the week to finish the PSA up.

I was recently provided with a list of Drama students who would be willing to help with video announcements. Today I went and contacted those students. Tomorrow (Tuesday-3/3/09) we are meeting in the commons to begin filming the PSA. Because the entire production has already been extensively  planned, I am hoping that tomorrow will go smoothly. Just in case everything falls apart, I am also making a short piece on DI, that should meet the requirement. If everything does go as planned I will have PSA material to work with next class.

2/24/09

Over break, the opportunity did not arise to film the PSA. Instead, I will have to film it during class, or after school. I talked to Mr. Peters, and he will let me use the BEAR suit for the PSA.

My short story is finally complete. I was concerned that it had become too ridiculous. However, I was able to incorporate some elements that made it more appealing.

I went to talk to Mr. Young and Mrs. Corby during their respective lunches, but they where not there. I will try back later because I have to get this project moving.

I am now working on a satire that makes fun of the Wii. I plan to continue working on this next class.

Hopefully, I can film soon. Either during class or after school.

I realized than Mr. Young is no longer in charge of drama. I think the new director is Ms. Corby so I will have to talk to her instead. Besides, I would prefer to film over break anyway. The PSA is now approved.

I am concerned that my short story has become to ridiculous. I know was the point, but now it might have gone over board. I am going to take a break so I can think about it more. In the meantime I will develop another script. I will come back to my original idea soon. I will work on both scripts over break.

I completed the story board for the PSA. I am going to try and get the footage for the PSA over break. I that case, I will try and use my friends as actors. I this plan fails, upon the return to school I will get actors from drama and film the PSA during or after school. In either situation I will have completed filming soon. Next class I will consult Mr. Young on actors.

I am making lots of progress on my short story. It is a bit cheesy, but then it is suppose to be that way.

The script for the anti-violence PSA is finished. I scouted out the location in the courtyard and everything looks good. Before I begin production I need to finish the story board.

Today, I also worked on my script for a short story. So far it is coming along very nicely.

I am still planning on helping Kelton with the intro/outro/transitions if he lets me. I have offered him several suggestions for talking objects.

Next class I plan on drafting actors, although I have no idea where to look for them. Perhaps I will talk to some kids in drama. I also need to complete the story board so I have a better idea of what I need to do.

Today we finished the video announcements class discussion. I decided that, besides from helping Kelton with the intro/outro/transitions, I would individually be in charge of a PSA. Hannah said that the PSA should be relevant to what is currently happening at TAHOMA. With that in mind I decided to base the PSA on violence because of the recent fights at TAHOMA. The piece will be several minutes in length and hopefully will illustrate the difference between violence and kindness. Next class I plan to scout out the intended film location--the courtyard-- as well as drafting actors. I also plan on refining the script. From there I can determine when I can film.

Today I brain stormed a list of 10 ideas for a short story. Then I narrowed down the list to one project that I wanted to explore further. With this one idea I expanded my plans and began to write a screenplay regarding the topic.

The main saber component is complete. Now it just needs fine tuning to look perfect. I really hope that it will export to final cut pro without any problems. I am also having trouble making it appear as the character has a stab wound. I used replicator components to make the wound and cannot figure out how to freeze the replicators so they stop moving. Over all, the project is going very well.

For the most part I am done with the basic saber components. I am now beginning the to use some composite effects to make it appear as the character is being stabbed through by the saber.

The light sabering is going good. It takes a long time but it is worth it. I hope to be finished by the end of next class. I just hope it transfers back to final cut pro without any problems.

Because the process behind this is so extensive. Instead I am going to postpone my schedule and practice the technique more. I will also make sure what I plan as the final is high quality, so I do not waste time on the project.

I decided to go back and edited a movie I already created to practice the technique. However, the clip is not responding the same way as the previous practice file.

After using photoshop, I can find no benefit at all. I will abandon that project and stick with motion for compositing. Instead I will try to make a light-saber in motion.

Lightsabers can be made but not with motion tracker.
